Do I have voice command or not?

Post by MSPORTBMW » Sun Jan 11, 2015 8:13 am

Hi there.....I just bought a 2009/09 plate 3.0d MSPORT with bluetooth, pro nav, bmw assist and online ,although the last 2 I have not subscribed to as of yet.

I tried to use the voice command(face button on steering wheel) but nothing happens. I press it quickily or press and hold and I hear no beep or indeed I don't see the talk symbol come up on the idrive screen.
So I'm taking it my car does not have this feature? .....not that I would have used it much, but it would have been nice to have nevertheless. I thought that having bluetooth and pro nav, it would of had it....but it seems not.

Can anyone shed any light on this for me please?

Thanks

The button is there by default but the option has to be 'enabled' and it is not part of any package.

It will be in the car as it runs off the iDrive and a Dealer should be able to activate it for you.  It's not cheap (it's a BMW after all) but it can be done.  You need a 'licence key' which is generated from your VIN. Have a look online for activating voice assist to see if there is an alternative route.....I'm pretty sure there is.

Thanks x5sport......can this be done with the 1.4.0 scanner do you know?  And can the 1.4.0 scanner actually be used on a 2009 x5 at all?
I bought one last year to code a few things on my them E53

Cheers
