Hi all, bit of an impulse purchase but I've just bough myself an X5 E53
4.4i V8 Prins VSi LPG conversion (professionally installed 5 years ago by Prins Gold installer).
Loving it so far!
It has the standard business stereo system, and I'm after upgrading to a digital double din with digital tv. It has the built in and upgraded alpine DVD players in the rear head rests, factory fitted, just wants to know a good type of head unit for replacing the business edition - which is looked like its dropped a few pixels!
Many thanks

There are many types you can use but note you will lose some OBC functionality unless you relocate the MID UNIT elsewhere.
Mainly lose the clock setting and trip resets etc ..
Do a search on here and you will see options

If things were meant to be easy, then I will soon complicate them....

Anything I say is only from my personal experience and knowledge..
I don't assume to know everything, and know there is a lot I don't know..
But then I could be talking bollox.. O:-)

Didn't even consider that!! And I've already ordered and received a new unit: http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.vi ... 1149611882
I'll just have to sacrifice the trip controllers now!

All is not lost...
Relocate the MID unit in the glovebox / another space, and you will still have access to those functions.
Or you could just plug it in to the IBus connection when you need to reset anything.....

Re: New X5 E53 owner - want to change radio
I replaced mine with a Pioneer head unit. The only pain I've found is not being able to correct the time or reset the MPG. Other than that I tend to leave it on "miles to go" and refer to the time on my stereo.

Re: New X5 E53 owner - want to change radio
Good point, I wouldn't mind having the option to reset the clocks, but of a noddy question, what is the MID? Is this the standard stereo?

Multi Information Display - has various trip computer functions and is fitted where no Nav was selected as a build option.
