Residual Value
Residual Value
Out of interest, I got a quote for my 2014 X5 from WBAC and was stunned by the poor valuation. Mine's a 30d MSport with adaptive xenons, privacy glass, folding mirrors etc in white with £2.5 k miles from new July 2014. WBAC valued it at £36k - £20k depreciation in less than 6 months !
The D4 was almost 4 years old and WBAC valuation was spot on the money at £32k when I PX'd for the X5. Is there no market for used X5's or is the initial depreciation just extraordinarily steep ?

Re: Residual Value
The added options on BMW do very little for the resale value of a car unless going through a private sale. The official values don't take any of that into account. WBAC will ALWAYS undervalue a car like a BMW because of this. Many other cars have the options as standard so included in the prices.
In reality you are very unlikely to have lost that much. You will still have lost a fair chunk though. Regardless of what car you buy, just taking it off the forecourt and straight back can cost you dearly, just ask a Citoen owner....

Re: Residual Value
I looked at trading mine in for an RS6 and was given a value that amounted to £25k depreciation. Went to RR and against a RR Vogue SE with the V8 diesel engine they were offering £8k more, but still quite poor. This was all when the X5 was less than a year old. God only knows what WBAC would have offered. Anyway they were both told to poke it and I'm so happy I did. Now planning on keeping it for at least two more years.

Re: Residual Value
I always check the pcp value on bmw's website before buying, they state a 4 year old 3.0 m sport with no options will be worth around £24k, if you go in against another similar bmw & buy from the right dealer with a discount you will prob get easily more like £26-27k, my x demo that was only 2 weeks old with 1k miles was discounted by around £8k when I bought it a year ago.
In my opinion no need to panic unless you have to sell.
You done well with your Land Rover, how much did it drop in the 4 years then?

Re: Residual Value
The Discovery lost £18k in 4 years which I didn't think was too bad. It was an HSE and I paid £50.5k brand new so the Whatcar depreciation index was pretty much spot on with a 62% residual value. They also show the X5 at 54% after 3 years so maybe the loss will slow after a couple of years of ownership.

Re: Residual Value
It will slow down
I got £24k for my X5 after 4.75 years and I paid £55k for it which I was happy enough with
