Main power, accessory power, explosive knife trigger (cuts the main cable in the event of an accident but leaves accessory cable running for telematics).

The condensate is water but you also get hydrogen gas which is why you need to vent.

Good question "smee-again".

What is all that junk on top of the battery. ?
** I'm wondering if it is a small battery back up to keep the computer data safe if the battery is changed/swapped out ?

AND

Can the X5 battery be swapped out without losing settings, memories & data ?

No there isn't a power pack.  It's the pyro system and connections.

Yes you can if you plug a 12V source in.  My CTEK MXS10 can act as a 10A supply.  With the car 'asleep' I connected it to the charging points under the bonnet and then changed the battery in the boot.  Lost nothing.  :)
