Wasn't there an issue with Porous blocks on some of the TD5s??

I remember a mate having to have his Disco engine replaced under warranty due to that.....

Some early engines had problems with the oil pump drives falling apart and I believe some issues with the heads. They were sorted fairly quickly and as I mentioned earlier in the thread, there were some major improvements in 2002 making that year on more desireable.

To my knowledge, porous blocks, and slipped liners for that matter, were the forte of the V8's; Disco, P38 possibly even some 50th's. Early factory V8's, up to 1990, did not suffer.

what about getting a 08 ish one, they have a different dash again and the 2.2 transit engine in, this is the same as the new one my bro has and its as refined as a defender gets, my bro got a 64 plate xs and it was 28k, but my dad just bought one for same use as you (dogs etc) as he has a new range rover on order that they will be banned from, its a 63 plate done 13k like new and it was 16k, its bottom spec but does the job and it will be lucky to half in price in next 10 years

Transfer boxes, half shafts, poor brakes, 0-62 this week, 85 flat out (or thereabouts), uncomfortable, noisy, but great fun off road.

Are you going to convert yours to be like Richard Hammond's "I am a driving God!" ?

I remember my first drive in a defender.
Scared the crap out of me..

Was the only car I have ever driven where the steering wheel appeared to operate the car following the one behind me...
Felt like it would have been slightly easier to get out and move the road in the direction the landy wanted to go in!!
