Land Rover Defenders
Re: Land Rover Defenders
What has made you want one of them ?
My mate has a series 1 had it for years has a Cummings truck engine in .
Drive shafts , rust on the chassis , signs of repairs main issues , engines are bomb proof . We have had a 1975 , 1984 ones & 1973 Cj5 before that all used on the farm as a work horse .
Good luck

I forgot to mention that the facelift dash didn't come till 2002. It's much nicer then the 1 in the link and includes electric windows. There were also some engine changes that year which are sort after. The major improvement was for the centre bulkhead (behind the seats) to be replaced with a thick bar. Gives a lot more flexibility for adjusting front seats.
The Thatched Garage are usually bloody expensive and as I said above, get a genuine CSW. That red one is not. Vehicles often come up on the site I linked and they are usually owned by nutters like us who love our X5's and look after them properly; their Defenders that is. I would think a CSW of 2002 facelift vintage would be within your £10k plan.
When you get 1 I hope you are not too far away from Bexhill coz 1 of the best independents in the country are based there. Terrain Vehicles. They've looked after all my LR vehicles over nearly 30 years. In fact, my Jeep Wrangler goes in there in January for an oil change; and they don't do Jeeps!!!

I am forever cured from British made cars after having owned a Discovery for 18 months. Most expensive car I ever owned with every gasket needing replacing on every service. Rusting on the roof as well, yuck.

Re: Land Rover Defenders
Hi has the wife been in one ? As they are quite drafty aswell as bouncy . Good point about new one as you will loose very little with low mileage ! We changed the Hilux last year & only lost £2000 over 2 years plus went for a better spec 3.0 from 2.7 unfortunately they are crap in the wet fields the landy never got stuck this thing does & I have to pull it out with the X5 with winters on . Look for an X mod vehicle as they do no mileage & are serviced all the time . Look on specialist sites first they will have been loved !

Yes she has, farming family background.
I wasn't planning on using it for long trips.............I've got the lotus for that )
Agreed on new and not loosing loads of money but I don't want to tie so much cash up in something that won't get used much

Not for me I'm afraid. It does have the newer dash but, being a hard top, still has the middle bulkhead. The price is way over the top which is probably a reflection of recent work that the owner is trying to recoup the cost. The suspension mods and a set of Sawtooth Alloys and tyres will set you back a lot of money. Hard top reduces vision significantly and makes it very dark and depressing inside.
On the positives it's been re-mapped and looks quite nice. It'll probably be quiet with all that dynamat but the weight will be increased so probably needs the re-map.
I'd keep looking for a CSW. If Mrs. 535 is going to use it she'll thank you for it in the end.
