What do these options do?

Hi there....Just used a VIN decoder to find out exactly what my upcoming  car has on it. (picking it up in the next week or 2)
Its a 09 plate X5 MSPORT.  Within the decoder i found these options.....

S612A
BMW Assist
S616A
BMW Online

Are these something that i have to subscribe to?  And if so what are the prices? And what will it enable me to do if i was to subscribe?

Yes to both.  The first is the breakdown/assist/concierge service and costs £130 a year.  The second gives you Internet services of sorts in the car.  I don't think the second works without the subscription to the first being current.  It also allows access to limited car functions from your tablet/smartphone via BMW Remote depending upon the car model/build date.  As an example, I can send addresses from Google maps direct to the satnav.  I think that needs the CIC type iDrive.

I've just renewed mine and remote etc stopped working until assist was renewed.

So basically those things do nothing unless you pay?

Correct.  I'm not even certain that the emergency button in the ceiling will work without money changing hands.
