Engine Oil Level too high
Engine Oil Level too high
Hello,
Today i looked in the service required menu on the X5 40d to see when it needs brake pads etc..
Whilst i was there i checked the oil level and it stated "Too much oil, contact service"
I have had the car 7 weeks now and i have checked the oil level a few times before and it has never said that and i haven't topped it up with any oil either. It was also parked on a level surface.
Does anybody know the reason why maybe the car has had an increase in oil without topping up ?
I checked the dipstick and it is about 1cm over the max line.
Thank You

Re: Engine Oil Level too high
I'd search the forum, it's been covered before. It can be a sign of a leaking injector, or failed regens, as if the cars not completing DPF regens the extra fuel injected can end up in the sump if not burnt off during a Regen. If there is signs of diesel in the oil. Or it could have been over filled at the last service. x5Sport had a problem after a service and may be able to give some advice. A diognosed may flag up if it's stopped trying to Regen.
Just guessing so worth getting it checked out at the dealers, or your indie

I don't trust the electronic dipstick, always skin my fingers getting the physical dipstick out. When that is showing max, the e screen shows about 200ml low, and that varies, despite the level on the stick being correct.

Re: Engine Oil Level too high
A couple of us have had this and in previous instances it is a dealer service error. I think in both cases red faced service staff sorted it. It wasn't far over, maybe 200ml but that was still too much for the computer.
The physical dipstick showed it as fine...

Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.

Thanks for the replys
The thing is i have checked it before a few times and it has never shown that. It as if oil has been added to it and it hasn't.

Re: Engine Oil Level too high
Had exactly that on my '11 40D - I see references to a physical dipstick. Didn't know there was one on these cars - where is it?
Thanks…
Thanks…

Excellent - thanks! That was after me bitching at BMW service about why these cars don't have physical dipsticks and them just shrugging at me…

Too few seem to know it's there. It was one of the BMW Bodyshop guys that pointed mine out after I made a similar comment.
