E53 4.6iS Converting from Side Steps to Black Plastic Rocker Covers
Hi All, and Season's Greetings to you!
Just chatting with SWMBO, and she's having a moan about getting her trousers dirty when she's getting out and they rub on the side steps (as they do!). Just wondering whether anyone has converted their X5 from having the wide arch side steps to having wide arches and the standard 'rocker covers'. Is there a cheaper source of parts than from the dealers, and do I need both sides front and rear arches and rocker covers? It looks like it from here:
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=FB92&mospid=47743&btnr=51_4723&hg=51&fg=16
At least I'd be able to sell the side steps and arch kit!

Hi
Im not too sure and Richard will probably be able to confirm this but depending on which wheels you have it MAY be an mot failure to remove the wheels arches as it will expose too much of the tyre.

I've got the 4.6iS 20" alloys (in the summer), but I want to keep the wide arches, but I don't think the ones with my side steps will fit with the steps replaced with the standard rocker covers.

I guess that would be the narrow arches, but it would provide the side pods and covers, how much would you want for them?
Cheers

I will if I can get all the other bits sorted, the ideal might be to find someone with wide arches and no side steps who wants to do a swap.

That would be awesome, I'll look into the costs of a courier, could you PM me with the address details and approximate dimensions and weight?
Thanks

I've just been looking, and you might be right Tim, if so I could move the arch extension lips across, then I'd have a set of side steps with the arches to sell. One note of caution with my sidesteps is that when I got the X5, it didn't have the naps in the sidesteps, and I've never got round to getting any, there are 57 each side, and they're about 79p each from a dealer! I might have a cheaper source now, but that would still be £60 for the full set of rubber bungs!
