Lowering the X5... advice needed!

Post by peter316 » Sat Sep 27, 2014 8:21 am

Morning,

Basically im looking at lowering the car, not got to be "slammed" but just a decent drop all round. Im a little lost over the rear, im guessing the front is simple springs but how do you lower the rear?Mine doesnt have air suspension i dont think? how would i know?

thanks

Peter

Hi Peter have a look in your boot under your spare wheel and you should have a large black dome shaped thing this is the air suspension tank and pump.
If so you just need the links or someone who knows what they are doing with a scanner to re-programme the settings for the rear and springs on the front
Have a look at this thread most of the info you need is here

You will more than likely have just rear air suspension.

You can fit lowering springs to the front and use the lowering links for the rear.

Alternative is to replace the rear air suspension with springs too.

Why are people wanting to lower a X5? Its a 4x4 it meant to be higher up!
If you want a vehicle that's low to the floor buy a sports car (M3, M5 or a Jap motor)  :))

to be fair ive always thought that, and still do to a degree but since putting my 20" x6 wheels on i cant help but think it would look finished just a few mil lower.

Tbf the likes of Eibach etc springs don't really lower much at all and its more about binning the air suspension too.

Also it'll still sit high so not quite the same as an M3 etc.
