sport mode x5 e53.....explain in plain english anyone????

I don't really travel that fast,more of a bimbler than a racer etc, when I first got the X5 (05 3.0d) I just enjoyed driving it and sussing stuff out in the cabin, maybe a week or so after I thought I would see what the performance was like (in the dark) so I flawed it on the M1 in normal drive mode, reached 110 leptons and decided that it felt really unstable and it being nearly 9 years old with 116k up I concluded that it was just a bit tired on the running gear and needed a bit of attention in the suspension/linkage side of things.

Today we were travelling on the A38 and thought I would try sport mode out for the first time, 110 leptons and it was still wanting to go more (easily) but the thing that grabbed me most was that it felt totally different this time,it felt really effortless and planted at 110 leptons and not at all like it felt in normal drive mode on the M1 the first time............maybe being a dickhead here but does the suspension change when sport mode is selected  :-[ ?

Sports mode just hangs on to the gears for longer so you can red line it  before it changes up, it will usually hang in a gear lower than when in drive, this has the effect of always being above the turbos spool up point, so quicker acceleration.
I doesn't alter the suspension in anyway on the E53. Or alter the engine management either

Doesn't the car move off in bottom gear when in Sport mode as opposed to 2nd in normal mode.

Not necessarily.  Although the Sport mode uses all the gears all the time, the car will still use 1st if the sensors indicate that is the best choice based on oil temp, load, throttle setting, power demanded etc.  On a cold morning the box will almost always use 1st as the box will be in 'cold' mode until the oil reaches about 35C (I think it's that temp).

Sport mode just changes the shift points and holds the revs much longer.  My 2005 E53 woul not select 6th until I was above 100mph indicated and the changes were close to the red line and more abrupt as the shift computer changes the overlap timing on the clutches.

I think this is the case... when I first got mine, it felt a little sloppy compared to what I had been used to but now I have a lot of confidence in the corners and when at speed.
