Windscreen washers random operation
Windscreen washers random operation
Hi I've just developed a fault with my windscreen washers. When I start the car up or the first time i use the washers I get a really strong long spray of water and washer fluid but if I repeat it say after a few minutes I get nothing, just the noise of the motors. This goes on until i stop the car and leave it for a bit then will work again but only once as per the previous time. The rear washer is not affected by this and happily washes each time I request it to. Anyone have any ideas? ??

Check the filters on the pumps. They are all on the washer tank. It may be you have some gunk floating about that is getting stuck when the pumps are run.

Re: Windscreen washers random operation
Cheers Richard, do I need to drain the tank before doing this???

It would save a mess, yes.

Re: Windscreen washers random operation
Cheers Richard managed to tip the header tank on its side to prevent having to drain and cleaned all 3 filters (the main one was very clogged up!) Back together and job done in 30 minute's

Something sine of us have found (self included) is that some screen wash concentrates are prone to 'growing' white gunk. I now only use the BMW one (you can buy it in 5/25-litre drums) and I have never had any more jelly in the tank.
