Fuel injection system warning light

driving to work last week and the above warning light came on, and stopped on!-read various forums(as you do when something goes wrong!)and most pointed to the fuel filter, so I decided to change it, lots of bits to take off but not the worlds hardest job! come to the filter and it looked to me like it had never been changed-still had the nasty clips on the fuel pipe(same as a cv gaiter)no sign of any of the bolts/clips having been disturbed, my car is a 55 3.0D and  has done 82K with full BMW service history up to me purchasing at approx. 68k and im pretty sure when I read the service schedule the filter was supposed to have been changed at the last service!
  Any way changed reset the error codes and no problem since and done about 200 mile since changing the filter may be worth looking at guys!

Glad you got it sorted, I would be very tempted to remove the engine covers and replace the air filter and check if it's got a vortex engine breather too, as these are often not changed either as they are a time consuming job on a service. I had a 55 plate 3.0 d and changed the air filter and checked the crankcase breather. It had a vortex type breather as these were fitted at the factory late 05 I think.
Some air filters havnt been touched in years though

done it! vortex filter fitted as std -mine was a September build and changed all filters last( didn't do the fuel filter because had been done at last service?) year and checked the breather(used to have a 320 d e46 so same as )gonna service car over Christmas and change diif, transfer box oils and do the gear box should be ok for a good few miles then!
Just checking through the service book-and it says at every 3rd oil change ,charged additionally -change fuel filter-change more frequently if diesel fuel quality is poor (page 8 of the service book)
