The time is nearly here, I leave for Dortmund Thursday morning to head over and finally get my gearbox oil changed by zf, I cannot believe how many people question why I am going that far to get it done? Come on, it's a good road trip plus a weekend away on the beer?

As for oil change,  waste time and money,  as for road trip ok but Dortmund, Essen, Duisburg industrial part of Germany, not a lot to do and see... Watch for  snow.. Need to have winters on,  Germany low...

Why do you feel the oil change is a waste of money?

Same arguments made when Raj went over there. Some consider it a waste of time and money, for others it's a laugh to be away for a while and getting the car sorted at the same time.

We've stayed over, long ago, at 5hep's hotel night before a meet and ended up spending a fortune (mostly at the bar). And then being hung over til the next afternoon...

Lots of money spent there too, so a waste of time and money? For some yes, for others a bit of a laugh with friends. Always up to you how you spend it and on a public forum always a right to an opinion.

Either way, safe trip, hope it's sorted first time and all a blur when you get back! :ok:

Oil change is ok,  you have to do it but to drive Dortmund to do it? Many garages in uk will do it as good as zf mechanics...

Maybe he thinks the gearbox doesn't use up much oil .......  ;)

Or maybe he meant going all that way to have it done ?

The Dortmund Xmas market starts today and it's massive and pretty much an excuse for lots of beer, so there will be plenty to do, as for cost it's only 500 euros with a flush or 450 if they don't think it needs doing, but I am on 98,000 now and zf themselves say although it's stated as sealed for life, life to them is 100,000. Anything that has oil or moving parts In needs looking after guys everyone knows this. Well that's if u want it to last. So as for a waste of money that's comes down to a each person, for me its a must, as soon as Raj told me they did it I was interested, so finally I made time to go.

thats a good price and even though some would say it's an industrial area the Dortmund Christmas market is particularly good.

It's all a bit of adventure with an oil change as a bonus! Have a great trip, worth the trip for the blast down the autobahn, probably best after the oil change though!

lol.......
Pretty sure most of the gear box problems are caused by the primary gear shaft, bush/bearing worn..... changing the oil apparently will make no difference to the longevity of the bush.....have read this in a few places...anyone else?
