LED Lights

Post by t400 » Mon Dec 27, 2010 5:09 pm

I fancy changing the interior and exterior lighting on my e35

Namely the
boot lights
number plate lights
maybe puddle lights
and footwell

does anyone have a list of whats needed? ( ie how many and what size)

I could always go look when its not so horrible outside, but wondered maybe someone has already done it?

cheers

A set may be the cheaper option. Here is what I mean. Although this this is a USA vendor, I have seen similar sets on eBay.

Never had the urge myself.

I switched my boot lights for LEDs and it's a massive improvement, from eBay. Can't remember what
sort they were though, my angel eyes are PIAA led H8s not crazy Audi bright but really nice.

I've changed about 70% so far

i'm waiting for more to arrive to do the headlining & reading / visors

you will have to get error free for the numberplate otherwise you'll get a warning from the obc

all the interior are ok to get any they won't cause errors

so far i've replaced all the festoons 38-39mm for led so all the doors and all the footwells (8 in total then 2 for the numberplate)

i'm waiting for 6 for the reading on the headlining

you can get most of them off ebay for quite cheap if you happy to wait for postage

Are the PIAA H8 kits really worth the nearly £200 asking price for a couple of LEDs and in line resistors/capacitors I can't really see them being that good to justify the price. There are other H8 kits I've seen but have not been overwhelmed by the H10W HIDS4U kit on my E53. It's OK, but only OK.

PIAA H8 on offer. http://www.piaaonline.co.uk/product/176 ... 92-E93-E70

HIDS4U: http://www.hids4u.co.uk/bmw-angel-eye-led-upgrade/. These ones flash when the cold bulb check is done at start up. Not an issue for me, but some may be annoyed.

Of them all there are only the £34.99 lamps compatible with our E53s.

That is the type I have fitted but paid a little less on eBay. Although the colour temperature matches the HID headlamps, the actual brightness is only marginally better than the OEM bulbs. As you say, if it is an annoyance the cold check needs programming out.

That will be a yes for me please.

I noted the other day unlocking at night 14 lights came on !

To save power, increased bulb life and better lighting i would like to change;
Roof interior lights x 2
Boot lights x 2
Front feet lights x 2
Door puddle lights x 4
Rear seat feet lights x 2
Thanks

Here are some shots of mine with the PIAA LED angel eyes fitted, both day and night, I've tried some other brighter versions available but they are either too bright (Audi/Merc style) or prone to breakages and I've settled on these as they do the job without being to offensively bright.
Really easy to fit and no trouble at all.

And a shot of the boot lights for comparison between standard and LED

Just finding out and will let you know. Also will take some pics and post them up. The door/boot/front footwell are complete replacement units as opposed to just replacement bulbs.

They are just festoons, but the replacements I'm getting prices on are complete units as opposed to just bulbs.
