E46 Recall - airbag issues

Post by X5Sport » Sat Nov 29, 2014 10:54 am

For those of you who have an E46 as well, there is a new safety recall on them for possible passenger air bag failure.

Ours has just been recalled to have the airbag replaced f.o.c.  Not bad for 9 years!

VOSA recall data - here with VIN range.

You just wonder if there is an age limit on these things, as a company it must be expensive to have to spend money on a car they stopped selling so long ago.

Pass, but the recall affects 291,000 cars!  We've been told that parts are now being made to order so we need to await a phone call.

It might be that as with some other devices there is a 10 years from end of production and it applies to cars too.  The fault is in the gas generator with faulty explosive.  Airbags have a service life and perhaps the bags are still within it.
