RB's stained/pitting again.

Post by x555 » Mon Dec 27, 2010 8:36 pm

So i finally managed to give the x a quick wash today after all the snow buggering of and me feeling a little better :D
But it wansn't long before i realized what i had earlier thought was true..............the dreaded running board pitting was back because of all the shi@y weather and not being able to wash it beast

So it looks like getting out the wheel cleaner and giving them bad boys a good scrubbing with plenty of elbow grease.I did this an age ago and they have kept well with more frequent washing :D .
For info my RB's are on a 54 plate and pit quite badly when left for a while..........i'm sure Sanj's and Pewters are pre 54 reg and are made of a different material that doesn't stain/pit as much.

My x was so dirty it looked like had grafite grey wheels from a distance...........and they looked pretty good  ;)

RB's stained/pitting again.

Post by ITBarbie » Mon Dec 27, 2010 9:27 pm

Hi

Mine were exactly the same yesterday very pitted. As you may remember I took all the plastic plugs off and wire wool'd the lot in the summer. I certainly did not want to repeat that at -1 so I got put the brasso on and prepared to give it a good rub. Being a woman I got bored after about 5 mins and used my wonder wheels. Amazing difference they are back to normal and I didn't even chip my nails :-)

Why go to all that effort eh. I do need a good recommendation though for a sealer?

I've noticed mine are showing that same measles-type pitting and staining now - the previous X, which was a 2003 early facelift, didn't suffer from it at all. What product are you using Penny? I don't think I fancy the wire wool and removal of all those wretched little plastic black jobbies........

A job to do when it returns from the dealer eventually; its the least of its problems at the moment

Hi

I used wonder wheels. Left it on for a few mins after agitating with the rough side of kitchen sponge and then rinsed off. Simples :-)

haa haa!!! ok ok, thing is though you should have plenty of wheel cleaner left over considering you are only running 19's! the bottle should last you a life time!! with regards to protecting the sills has anyone thought of using the alloy wheel protective wax which they say to apply when wheels are brand new or after good clean etc??

Is Wonder Wheels OK on the black studs or did you remove them this time also?

Must get off to Halfrauds for some Wonder Wheel or look for it online......those measly spots on the Running Boards really spoil the look (well at least they detract from the puny 18"winter wheels!!!) :)

Hi

My large Tesco store stock it so it may be worth a look when you're next in.

Wonder Wheels can be sourced from Asda even. It is great stuff for jobs like these. Will be doing mine on Thursday along with the rest of the motor as it is a state. Did think about using poorboys wheel sealant as a layer of protection but not sure if it will work or not.

Thanks ITBarbie, my RB's are in a bit of a state due to the road salt. Will give this a try.

RB's stained/pitting again.

Post by Rusty » Wed Dec 29, 2010 12:58 am

I am looking into having my RB's refurbished after the winter, so will share as and when I get them done. In the mean time, I just use a good black wax on them when cleaning the plastic. Seems OK so far.
