Well another thread on an old topic. The sound out of my front drivers speaker is starting to get crackly after it's been on for a while. I'm assuming this means the headunit is on it's way out.
Has anyone yet managed to get hold of one of the units from car vision or tv in motion?

Headunits
Re: Headunits
This isn't your headunit, it's the RCM (radio control module). There are two types, BM24 and BM54. the latter being fitted to most facelifts (40 pin connection). They both suffer from dry solder joints. The BM24 can be repaired but the bM54 can't. There is a workaround fix to the BM54 but you need to know where to take the outputs from on the component board inside the unit. New unit are £700 from dealers and £300 plus on eBay...
The headunit is nothing more than the remote unit, nothing inside it but the cassette mechanism and screen.

Re: Headunits
Fair point x555, could be a loose connection but the crackling usually points to the RCM... Esecially if the sound is on and off.
Hope it is a loose connection though.

Kinda occurred to me it could have been my wiring when I changed the speakers so will look at that when it's a bit warmer.
Found some threads on other forums about the Chinese headunits and apparently they are ok but reliability is a bit shaky. Will keep looking though.
