Lovely looking place, I do envy those living outside of the South East  :'(

Agreed !!!

Look it another way and using our cars and what we paid new, could have bought a whole house by looks of things

£65K+£63K+£60k (looking at possible lotus replacement tomorrow)+ I want another new smart car £14kish I guess + number plates I just bought £xxK ouch !

I have a few properties around the place. The mother in laws two bed flat in Glastonbury that I own is worth c£150k or so. Flat is pleasant. Glastonbury is an absolute shit hole !

Maybe I should go back to Wales !

Love people rattling on about the value of their house, the problem is many still have a mortgage on them, some owe huge amounts so the 'feel good' factor is somewhat limited  :)

Agreed.

There was this person I know recently that used to boast about her £1m house.

It was a lovely house I agree.

Then I learnt the mortgage was massive and to add insult to injury the dosey tart had it on an interest only mortgage. WTF!!

Reality is most people of working age need a mortgage unless significant money made or handouts along the way.

I am in the sizeable mortgage club for sure albeit majority of home value is equity and I have a repayment product.

I could by a nice fleet with the proceeds but it's wise to have a roof over and above.

I don't see this as a bragging thread and have no doubt the mortgage application here benefited by credit history from debts of past.

Luckily I havnt had a mortgage since I was 40,  ( now 51 ) circumstances meant that when I met my wife in my late thirties she was mortgage free as well. So we have two houses that are paid for and we let the other property.
I bought my first house when I was 22, £16k lucky to buy in the mid 80's as the housing market was on the up.
Friends of ours are still forking out £1k a month on mortgages.
Glad I'm not starting out these days :)

Living in South London we bought a 4 bedroom victorian terrace house in 2002......couldnt afford to buy it now.

Bought 2 investment properties in london last year. Cant afford to buy them 18 mths later.

Its great to look at the equity available but this is only of any use if we move out of london.  Resigned to the fact we are staying where we are till we retire as we only have a small mortgage on the house and to move anywhere else in london now would require a much bigger mortgage.

Equivalent of a wife, i.e. you pay forever through the nose and you will never own her, and if you stop paying she is gone  :))
