Re: BMW Insured warranty
In a word and my opinion YES, when buying any used car there are components that are so expensive to repair/replace that with labour can rapidly make the car to uneconomical to repair yourself. Like all insurance though we all hope we never need it and complain about the cost but if stuff happens!!

Re: BMW Insured warranty
It's expensive and I'm currently contemplating whether or not to renew in January. Up until last year I suspect I probably more or less broke even on cost and claims but have had a claim free year. At about £1,100 including breakdown (which we no longer need) for fully comprehensive with £100 excess it's a lot of money. I'm also wondering how much value it is likely to add at resale as there's a chance we might sell it at some point.

Re: BMW Insured warranty
I took a gamble on my 4.8is and elected not to keep the warranty running. Think it was something like £140 per month for the BMW cover so I kept saving that for the first year and then stopped.
Got a nice little nest egg now that will ease the blow or take care of when the next biggie comes in. What influenced my decision was that most the big common faults had all been replaced- front struts, compressor, sunroof even the gear box at a cost of £5k (stealers pricing there-wow!!) and other stuff as well that a can't recall without going through the mass of receipts.
Had this car nearly 2 years now and all that's failed was the rear light cluster at just over £100, my previous X5 a 3ltr sport on the other hand was a money pit with failed power steering, transfer box, multiple sensors!!!

Re: BMW Insured warranty
Bmw = Buy More Warranty.
But if you're happy to commit to self insuring and putting some money away in a maintenance fund with the knowledge you will need it - 'when' not 'if' - then that can work also.

Re: BMW Insured warranty
With the monthly payment plan I know the warranty stops when you sell and the new owner has to reapply but would an inspection be required by the new owner (and anything found put right)?

Re: BMW Insured warranty
Don't think any inspection is required. New owner won't be able to make any claim for first 30 days however.
The price of the BMW warranty goes up once car has hit 60,000 miles.

Re: BMW Insured warranty
If you pay monthly, the price of the warranty remains the same until you sell the car, regardless of mileage - if a new owner wants the warranty after a sale then it would increase in price if the mileage was over 60 000.
