Sat Nav - firmware update

Post by centurion » Tue Oct 28, 2014 2:30 pm

hiya,

I'm pretty sure this topic had been discussed several times but I was wondering as I'm running SW v4-1/42 on my '04 (facelift) X53 could someone confirm if that is the latest and can it be upgraded [with instructions on How to...]? O:-)

Cheers...

I believe you are using version 24.1, released November 2004. The latest and greatest for the DVD nav is V32,  which will show 4-1/00 when upgraded.
To upgrade, you need a V32 disk, which you insert into the drive with ignition 1 and drivers door open. Then be very patient for about 5-10 minutes (depending how good your disk drive is).

cheers... I have found couple websites to d'load the version and will give it a go tonight.

As for maps, up to what version is supported on v32? e.g. can I use 2013/4 DVD maps with 2004 sat nav on v32 :)?

All the discs are compatible.

If you have not yet found the official instructions, it is key that the CD you burn is good quality and burned at the LOWEST speed your writer will allow.  This reduces the risk of 'bricking' the unit.

Have a look on Xoutpost for copies of the official BMW instructions and FOLLOW THEM TO THE LETTER.

will do cheers...

something I noticed post d'load is that .bin file is 300Mb+ while instructions indicate to burn the .cue which is only 1KB (and not both). In anyway and based on intuition I went for earlier and will give it a go later on today.

FYI...  I spoke to HR Owen-Holland Park BMW re V32 (and have had Part # handy)... and their response: '...we need to speak to head office to release the disc as it is not something we are aware of and it does not show up on the system' :camera:.

More to follow...

You can always take your car to them and update it on site.  My Dealer did that for the last update.  Only took about 5 mins.

done... was expecting it would take longer but it was a straight fwd task to accomplish.

Will try and get 2013/4 maps over the weekend to see how 'responsive' it is/will be ;)...

I noticed no real difference.  What you should now be able to select is 'Perspective' or birds eye view mode rather than a plan view of the road.  I think it's under 'Set' but have a search on line for the instructions.
