Got a barstard stone chip............

Post by 535dboy » Mon Oct 27, 2014 4:28 pm

Whilst I am not expecting sympathy (well IQ can give a bosom to cry on) I am rather pissed off about this and thought I would flag it up in case it is the same with BMWs

So I get a stone chip on Saturday which has turned in to a bit of a crack.

Phoned insurers who said Autoglass can do it.

No problems so far.

Then they ask "does it have adaptive cruise and lane assist/departure warning"?

"Yes it does" I reply

"Well in that it has to go to Audi afterwards so that lot can be re-programmed !"

Confirmed with Audi who said that would be c£500 and no it isn't covered on the insurance  !

I then think, you know what, I could live without some of those gadgets. No can't do that because all the warning lights will come on !!

Proper **** off

Anybody heard that with BMW?

Any Audi abuse will result in me getting your address off PVR and coming and setting light to your car !

Not had this when I had two BMW screens replaced with auto lights.

My guess is the camera has to be re bore-sighted as the screen glass angle will have changed so a new datum is needed.

Why it should cost £500 seems excessive though.  It will only be a tiny adjustment needed surely?

Richard

PS - just a thought.  My screens were done by BMW to comply with the warranty.  Can you get Audi to say your warranty is invalidated unless they change it?  Aviva let me have the change done by BMW @£700 a time.

Yes I have had loads of screens with auto lights etc but the issues seem to be adaptive cruise and lane things

Over 4 hours work apparently to re-calibrate it !!

Interesting it is on the glass though, I thought it was at the grill area but obviously not then.

With my Admiral claim for the glass, I just told them that Autoglass could not do it and they allowed BMW and I just paid the excess. If I had "chosen" to have it done by BMW, then it would have cost me a lot more (whatever the cost - the total Admiral would pay).

Nasty though as it is money down the drain.

But you only need to ask me for the addresses though, or the IP addresses that lead straight to the front door of the users  :))

Nice RS4 being delivered when I was at the dealers on friday to finish off some bits from mine. Been offered a test run in that as well as the R8.

The BMW lane one is too.  Same camera (KAFAS) that the speed limit display system uses.  I must find out how to activate it as there can't be any hardware (it's already in), so it must be a CIC function that needs a licence key.

The BMW KAFAS camera needs calibration too, so that might be the problem.  From quick research the BMW system also uses the top down cameras if fitted.

Confused me too because you are right, the acc sensor is in the front lower grill so I don't get that either

Crawley Audi? I was there on Friday too getting some top up oil. I really don't think you will rate the R8 compared to yours but go and try & report back

Is it worth asking Audi how much they charge to fit and code the windscreen as a fixed price?

Only reason I say that is most insurance companies just have a limit of £1k for windscreen replacement so if it comes to £1200 total then it's costing you less overall. Also they may do a better price as they'd be doing the whole job.

Cool. Can easily get the insurance company to agree to Audi as the argument to keep it original is a strong one being the age it is.
