What's it worth? (Considering selling and leasing)

Post by Dan1502 » Mon Oct 20, 2014 1:49 pm

We only need on car at them moment so are selling our R129 SL60 with the deal due to complete this week.

Whilst I am happy to keep the X5 for a while, a leasing deal on a Golf R got me thinking that it probably wouldn't cost much more over a two year period than than X5 given that I pay for a BMW warranty and factoring in depcreciation.  This all depends on what the X5 is worth though and how much it is likely to be worth in two years.

So our X5 is a 54 registration 3.0D Sport , we're the second owners, BMW history, silver with grey leather with panoramic roof, Westfalia towbar (only used for bikes).

It is in great condition having only covered 37,500 miles and it's covered by the comprehensive BMW warranty.  The wheels were refurbished this year due to a minor scuff to one and slight corrosion of the inners.  It had new Michelin tyres fitted all round at the same time.

Having never leased before I also need to consider the potential pitfalls.

Thanks

Dan

Yes, the more I look at it the more I feel I should go for it.  I'm not sure of the lead in time though.  Ideally I would want to sell the X5 whislt the warranty still has time to run but before having to fork out again (which is January) though I guess I could switch to monthly then transfer to the new owner if they want to keep it up.  I'd need to look into that.

is that the £204 a month deal? My friend just ordered his and is getting delivery in Feb..

We have a 2001 4.4 V8 X5 which has been fantastic but its become our daily driver is now costing us £100 a week in petrol!!

I was thinking about leasing the new Nissan Qasqai but when I went to get a trade in value for the X5 they only offered 2.5k and lease payment was £380 for the Leather and Auto spec nissan.

I just thought for 2.5k I can't be bothered to let the X5 go.. i've become to attached lol

Ok so I've regretfully decided not to proceed. It just doesn't make sense for us having worked out how little mileage we currently do.  I'm keeping the X5 for now.  I just have to consider whether or not to maintain the BWM warranty at about £1,000 pa.

So here are the details:

Ask for Ben in the fleet department.

JCT600 VW dealership in Bradford.

01274 470617

3 dr in white with DSG

£2,000 +VAT initial plus £172.13 +VAT x 23 = £7,150.79 total.

Maintenance and tyres is £27.77 +VAT pm extra (1 + 23)

And I guess if you mention Dan put you onto it it might help me if I ever want to do a deal with him in future.

I also called in at my VW dealer for a look, they didn't have an R in a look and test drive. They are tied to VW finance for their quotes, and said they couldn't move on the prices.
I also worked out that at 7K over 2 years it wasn't worth it as I only do 3-5k a year in my Golf as its a weekend car.
I'm doing 35/40k a year in my company van. I'm sticking to the TDI it drives very well and it's paid for.

I gather a lot of VW dealers are reluctant to offer this presumably as it takes sales away from them.  You have to ask for personal contract hire and if they say they don't offer it you can apparently insist that they do.  The deal I quoted is by VW finance but with all (or most) of the commission rebated towards the initial payment.

The guy I contacted was great so I would just deal with them rather than a reluctant local dealer.  I didn't even get a promised call back from the Manchester dealer.

I was going go ahead thinking that we do a total of just under 10,000 miles pa in both cars and as we have just sold the SL60 and only need one car at the moment.  I then checked and was surprised to discover we only totalled about 5,000 miles last year!

I took my IPad in to the showroom with me as I had saved the quote off the internet, when he printed off the VW finance quote I showed him the saved quote off the net he said he had lost 5 similar deals that week all on the Golf R. That's when he told me his hands were tied by having to deal with VW Finance.
The Internet deal is pretty good when compared to just leasing a TDI, similar price for a top of the range 30+K car that's quoted a 0-60 time of 4.9 seconds in DSG guise, and 5.1 seconds in the manual.
I've got the DSG on mine and its a cracking drive.
I may be tempted in the future  ::)

I have a screen print from the VW system confirming the deal I was offered but JCT600 are a very big dealership.  He was also happy for me to pass on his details and the deal saying he'd take as much business as he could get.

My parent's bought a new car (their first) via a broker and it was via JCT600 hence why I thought I'd give them a call.  I believe a lot of brokers use them.
