Heated washer jets??

I think I have heated washer jets, but they don't appear to be working. Frozen up every time in this cold weather.

Is there a check I can carry out to see if they are working??

I too would like to know this as I thought they were just shit. Actually thats unfair, cos the nozzles have never frozen, just the screenwash in the pipes. And its neat.

Most screen washes will freeze below -6 or so, unless you buy BMW's own little grey bottles and use it absolutely neat. I diluted the BMW wash 1:1 and it still froze - despite claims that it would be ok to around -20!!!! It may have dropped below I suppose!!

My screen wash was rocksolid in the bottle for the 2 coldest days, even though I thought that using BMWs own to a dilution claiming that it would not freeze up to around -20, it did.........not much the heated nozzles can do in that case!! I know you can get battery thermal blankets, maybe we need thermal blankets for the screen wash bottle as well.........

I am running the BMW stuff at a 1:1 base, was working fine at -10 last night. Only thing was that the car came out of the garage so it was not pre-chilled prior to the journey.

I just use Halfords premium screen wash straight out the 5 ltr container. No problems with freezing here and the X stands outside overnight. Not sure what the temp. has been outside though. All I know is it's bloody cold.

Canadian stuff says ok down to -40C on the label. Don't want to test that personally! I know its ok at -14 and that was a bit diluted with what was still in the reservoir.

Hi Condor,

Are you sure you had it at 1:1? That means you should have almost 4 litres of screenwash in the 7.8 litre tank. Mine has been fine down to -15C at around that concentration.

I only have 4 litres left so I ordered another 20 litre 'winebox' from BMW this morning. There were none left in the UK and just 24 in stock in Germany. Last winter they sold out completely in around January and didn't get more stock until the summer(!) so anyone that wants some should order it now. The part code is 83 12 0 404 499.

I could only get the little plastic bottles - the 500ml ones. And filled up with 4 of them so yes, around 4l! on a 1:1 basis. I think the wind chill plus the - temps just went below what it could stand. I'll just put the pure concentrate in next time......expensive but effective, if you can get it, that is!

Not like me to be pedantic , but 4 x 500ml is 2 litres. At I dilution of 1:3 I would have thought it would only cope with around -6C, but the stuff is in the garage and it's a bit too cold to go and look at the instructions......

The neat BMW stuff freezes at -63C according to my memory of what it says on the bottle.
