The Lurch !

Post by chelsea » Fri Oct 17, 2014 9:06 pm

Hi everyone,

Absolutely loving my new drive,
still finding my feet with it a little and have spent a fair few hours trawling the forum for all the glitches etc.

I have found so far.....that I am getting 130 miles to £30 worth of diesel in stop start conditions on my commute to work,I'm driving it normally but not flooring it etc !

I am finding that once warm the box likes to give a small kick when changing down into first gear at standstill, this usually happens at sharp slowing down to junctions etc, almost like its held the revs for too long and the box was too slow to change smoothly....the rest of the box seems fine and I have done all the checks with kickdown and hill starts etc, all is good, certainly not mercedes smooth but it seems decisive and accurate everywhere it changes through the range.
The gearbox oil was changed by the previous owner at coopers in York a short while ago (big bucks) so I can only guess that the box is getting on a little etc......it's not bothering me and I can actually drive around the glitch but I have read that a reprogram may sort it out???????
I am guessing that the box may need some attention in the next 20k or so ....any info will be very well received on the problem....I can see it is apparent on all the zf boxes, jag, range rover etc and not particularly over worried........I got the X5 (05 115k semi mint) for 6.5k with spare set of  winter wheels and tyres so I am cash in hand for repairs etc.

The second thing I have noticed is when braking from high speed I have the warped disc shudder from the front, I have a receipt from coopers again for the control arms etc so am pretty sure its the discs...anything to look for >>>??

Cheers all

Everything you mention is pretty normal behaviour, the kick is your lurch. Annoying trait of this box.

I'd go with warped discs but get them checked before shelling out.
