CD Changer problem.

Post by Wardy9 » Tue Jul 22, 2014 2:33 pm

Ok, another little gremlin with my 2002 X5 3.0d e53.  I have to sort out the CD changer.

The original problem was when pressing MODE for CD on the radio head unit it wasn't recognsiing any discs in the changer.  So I've had the changer out and in bits as thought it could be a loose screw or something, but thee was nothing.  Plugged the changer back in and stil getting the same messager on the radio unit 'No Discs'.

Any ideas as to why this happening or should I go on fleabay and get a replacement one?

Cheers

The laser commonly becomes faulty on these units.  Take care when buying a fleebay unit as it might be a dead or dying one as well.  They are a ridiculous price from BMW.  The laser can be replaced however - there are a number of how-tos on the internet and also a few places that will recondition the unit and send it back to you, the same places that fix the BM54 unit often do the laser repairs as well.

Cheers for the replies... Watched the YouTube clip and seems pretty simple so will give it a go and see what happens.
