Just called BMW

They use castrol edge professional
0w-30

£175 for oil service only

I thought it was 5w-30

What's the difference?

Not much.  Some dealers use one and some another.  It will be the cold viscosity which in the UK winters usually doesn't come into play.

Spending waaaaaaayyyy too much time on here!!  :))

A long time playing with cars, being interested in how things work, taking things to bits and putting them together again, being an engineer and well frankly er....a geek (or is it nerd?).. :nerd:

God Bless, Richard Sir, answering the very question I have been pondering, two months since obtaining mine. Many thanks once again

my local indy uses with PETRONAS 5W-30 fully synthetic Low saps ACEA C3 oil
and they prefer to use their own stock rather than supply your own

quick google it is still LL04 BMW spec, but thought I would stick with Castrol Edge

thoughts?

They are both absolutely fine.  The ACEA C3 & LL04 makes it a good oil.

BMW probably did a deal with Castrol hence the dealers using it.  Same with only using certain makes of tyres.  It's all about product placement.

I get mine from costco - Edge 5w-30 for £25 for 4 litres.
Indy has also said that for higher mileage, sometimes they use 5w40

Whatever it is here in France, it costs £200. My service today was £420. Oil change and cabin filters. Ouch.

Next time it'll be out of warranty and I'll go to an indy.
