E70 wheels onto E53

Post by Lemans x5 » Sat Oct 11, 2014 8:24 am

Hi was wandering if someone can help me out here.

I have been offered a set of 18" wheels to use as winter wheels but i think they are from an E70.  The guy sold his car and kept the winter wheels he had.  The tyres on them were 235/55/18 and the fitment is 8.5Jx18.

Will these fit straight onto my 2006 3.0d E53?

Thanks

Doug

hi you will need spigot rings to centre the wheels as the E53 have 72.6 centres & E70 74.1 , need to check the offset aswell , tyre size should be 255/55/18

Hi i just realised my error with tyre size.  You are correct 255.

Thanks for your help.  The place i buy my tyres from are a alloy wheel dealer so they should have the spigot rings.  i take it these are the plastic rings that fit into the centre of the wheel?  Im not so clued up on wheels and fitments.

Thanks

Doug

Hi Doug you can order them off the net aswell I think Halfords can order them about £9 for 4 , yes plastic but you can buy metal also . Just check the offset as if they are staggered they may cause you some hassle as the rears are a different offset to the E53 .

Hi,

By staggered do you mean like the 20's that are on my car just now? 275's as opposed to 315's on the rear.  I checked all 4 wheels and they are all the same size and fitment seems the same as the ones i have on.  problem is im at work and not home till next week and trying to find tyres.

Thanks

Doug

I think the 18" wheels should be non-staggered.
18x8.5J with as SID10 says, tyres would be 255/55/18 109Y XL.  You do need to watch the load index as the E53 isn't exactly light.

Always best to buy metal spigot rings in my view, and especially when using them on a 2-tonne+ car.
