8sp box jerky changes

Post by wolins » Sun Sep 28, 2014 3:33 pm

Hi just picked up a 10 plate x40d m sport, pretty pleased with it a lot nicer than the x6 I had previous however the gearbox feels terrible

1st-2nd change is very jerky, yesterday morning it held 1st and then really slammed into second. Also feels juddery when accelerating hard. Also terrible in traffic and it's changing down gears when driving slow and not smooth at all!

Car has done 70k, bought it from bmw dealer so has the warranty etc and will be going back tomorrow. Just wondering if anyone has had any experiences with 8sp box playing up

Cheers

Also have a 2010 40d, 8sp box is as smooth as silk,
much smoother than the 6sp box I had in my last car.

It was the smoothness of the 8sp box that convinced me to pay a bit more for the Lci version.

Its going back into bmw on Wednesday for that and some other issues

It will only creep forwards or backwards when selecting D or R for about a second and then stop, and also first thing in the morning when reversing the gearbox is slipping, lots of revs to get it moving....

Car has done 70k full bmw history at same dealer

Very disappointed in the dealer who sent the car out like this

BMW AUC is no better than any other Dealer Warranty, and you aren't the first to come across issues.  It seems that cars are deliberately put out there 'as is, faults and all' and then when the faults are 'discovered' by the new Owner then the warranty company pays up instead of the dealership.

In your case I suspect a new gearbox will be needed so the warranty company gets the massive bill and not BMW or the Dealership.

It's a shoddy way to behave but they pretty much all do it.  No wonder some of these warranties are so expensive.
