Sudden excessive rear tyre wear

Post by XV » Sun Sep 28, 2014 7:41 pm

Just noticed the rear tyres on our X5 are down to the canvas on the insides.

The tracking was done about 18 months ago after the bottom ball joints were replaced.

I jacked it up and discharged the suspension but there is no sign of any free play.  Both sides are affected which makes me doubt that the tracking is out, but what could cause both to go at the same and result in scuff and wear marks half way up the side wall?

Any advice gratefully received.

You need to let the air out to check for movement on the rear arms.

Mine all felt ok with the air charged but almost everything was shot, most could feel movement with the air released.

Hi,

Tyre pressures are ok and never use the X for towing.

I have already discharged the air suspension.  There were no obvious signs of free play.

You know that these run negative camber on the rears so that they always wear the inside edges first I take it....Probably exaggerated wear after the other parts that needed replacement before.
