DVD drive

My nav DVD sounds like it's accessing constantly. Is this normal, or a sign if impending doom??

Ok thanks all - slightly reassuring.

Has anyone changed the drive?  I can get a "replacement" nag disk to work in mine, and a weak laser is cited as the problem.  I found this how to:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mp3uIM77Fiw  but it still looks a bit daunting!

And they fitted new one for him at a very good price !!

mine was changed at main dealer before I bought my E70 this year.  New ones makes the same noises like it is constantly reading the disc.

yes mine is the same and same in the e60 5 series too

i find it so odd it's constantly reading even when car is off?

It should stop reading once the car goes to 'sleep' after a few minutes.  But yes it is a bit odd.  The E53 does it too.

just a quick update on this old'ish post. Generally 1st time car started in morning, my sat nav don't work and says either "please wait" or "DVD read error! please check DVD". If you eject and re-load dvd disc it will then seem ok.! SO I took it back to stratstones a few weeks ago and they said they could not find any fault codes or a problem with it..! mmmmm I kinda guessed this might happen BUT lucky for me, I took photo's with my mobile phone, so I showed the service guy.! GOTCHA lol. So he then says we will order a new one or something which will have to come from Germany and will take a week to arrive, rebook it in (which is 2mo) and then hopefully with my photo's and the now 5 new photo's from last week which I have also taken, they said hopefully they can convince BMW to get it sorted under warranty ? To be honest, stratstone's have been brilliant the couple of times car been back but just wondered if anyone knows where this might be going or had similar problem  O:-)
