I've fitted four or five of these kits over the years, they are much of a muchness to be honest.  Just spend upwards of £50 with slim line ballasts, colour temp no more than 5k, and bulb warning cancellors and all will be well.

Standard OEM bulb type is the D1S so look for those kits and slim line ballast as above.

Some folks have fitted 55W in place of 35W for the extra brightness.  Anything above a colour temp if 5K IMHO is a waste.  4.6 - 4.8K is fine.  Above 5K they level of blue increases and the brightness falls off as your eyes work better at the lower colour temps.

Advice please.

I would personally avoid the higher wattage versions as if honest they are still a grey area and technically illegal, extra bright isnt ideal I personally think, plus extra draw on electrical ststem not ideal on initial start up, some are not smooth with power draw etc, it helps the X5 has washer headlights, self level rear suspension etc but even still its not a genuine projector lamp designed for Xenon, and therefore not ideal.

Richard, to clarify, is a D1s bulb not fitted to X5 lights with genuine Xenon from standard? and therefore will not fit a H7 halogen bulb which is within halogen headlamps? unless fitted with an adapter? in which case avoid and stick with H7?

Agreed.  Wasn't sure if it was straightforward to change the holder or not.  Obviously not... :(
