Nokia and BMW bluetooth...

Post by Roy2593 » Thu Dec 16, 2010 10:35 pm

Hi,

I have managed to successfully pair my Nokia 5800 music express to my car but it wont transfer the contacts and the buttons on the steering wheel dont work(can't answer or hang up calls), it only says 'please wait' on the dash.

I have downloaded Nokias 810 Contacts downloader to my phone but hasnt made the slightest difference!

Has anyone successfully transfered a newish/modern nokia or any other make of phone with the BMW bluetooth?

I am going to get a new phone and want some ideas.

Thanks,

Roy.

I've got a Nokia X6 and have somehow paired it to the car (it just hung during the pairing search so have no option but to turn ignition off after an age, however phone says its paired??). It rarely connects itself to the car when driving so have now given up. Before this I had a Nokia 6500s which paired first time, connected everytime so if I'm doing a long journey, I divert my calls from my X6 to the 6500s and everything works fine.

I'd love to cut out the faff of diverting calls but I think my new phone and car aren't compatible.

I've deleted all the old pairings, re-paired 6500s with no problems, attempted to pair X6 numerous times with limited success so would welcome any new ideas.

Does the phone book transfer from the 6500s to the car aswell? Does it cost you to divert calls from one phone to the other?

Recently got a Nokia 3710 and it paired immediately with 2010 X5. Probably not uch help to you - the new systems do seem to be much easier to pair than the older ones in my experience.

All my Blackberrys have been 100% fine with my E53 (as well as my newer M).

I have an old 6230i as a car phone (PAYG)which is fully compatible and works great.
All i do is divert my normal phone to the 6230i when off on longer journey.I do this as my samsung tocco doesn't like the bmw bluetooth system and will not pair up :headbang: it pairs up bet then disconects straight away.
So untill i change the phone this works well for now.
Roy.... as for your nokia 5800 i don't think it's fully compatible as i have the compatibility list that is no longer available from the bmw website (no links sorry but i have it on a printout) and yours isn't on the list. The 5200 and the 5300 are there but also limited.
Infact the only nokia's that are fully compatible on the list are the 6230i and the 6310i all the others are limited compatibility.
HTH
Having said that pvr mentioned blackberrys and all of those on the list say limited compatibility aswell :idunno:

No , not at all , because the first fone doesn't answer the call , it re-directs straight away

X5s of the E53 variety do have limitations re the Bluetooth - remember, even the newest ones are around 4-5 years old now, and Bluetooth has changed a lot over the years. The two best Nokias for full functionality with address book, SMS etc are the 6230i and 6310i - these really have no problems with E53 X5s and for the sake of sanity, I have taken to having a phone permanently in the car, in my car, the equally fully functional Sony Ericsson k800i. Then I can have the most up to date model of any other phone I want without having to bother about the car pairing with it.
Older cars have this kind of limitation; I guess a Parrot Kit or a Nokia CK1W would solve the issue but I for one wouldn't want to do that!!
My Blackberry Curve also works but without SMS, so I'll just stick with the k800i.
Nokia had very few phones on the original BMW list as I recall......the 6230i and 6310i were the best of the bunch! Current N95s etc really didn't seem to do well with the E53, or had limited functions available.

I've just tried a sony ericcson K800i and it works!! Everything works, pairing, the phonebook and the steering buttons!!

I'm so pleased, at least i know my bluetooth module is working ok! I will keep that in the car and divert calls to it. Untili get my new phone!

Thanks,

Roy.

So pleased you got sorted Roy, its such a frustration this Bluetooth issue with older BMWs. The K800i is rock solid and you can buy the snap in cradle thingie for it as well and just leave it in the car where it charges up without running the battery down if you use the snap in cradle adapter. They cost about £50 from a main dealer or sometimes cheaper on ebay.
The k800i gets the SMS, phonebook, the lot, with the aggravation of limited connectivity.....

Hi,

I have just thought of something, if you have diverted your phone to the k800i, can you make phone calls from the phonebook of the car though? Would you have to make a call manualy through your proper phone?

Roy.
