lost sound on reverse sensors!
lost sound on reverse sensors!
hi all,
i nearly reversed into my neighbours car this evening when the reverse sensor bleepers didnt work.
i thought i must be getting close so took care but i noticed the green light was flashing on the sensor switch but no sound!
has anybody else come across this problem?
regards and happy christmas to all on the forum..

Re: lost sound on reverse sensors!
Bit nasty, I know I'd struggle as I've come to rely on them over the last few years, really disconcerting reversing a car without them.
Can't live without splchek either

Re: lost sound on reverse sensors!
When thye green light flashes on the button on the centre console it usually means that one or more of the sensors has stopped working.

Re: lost sound on reverse sensors!
With the pdc on check each sensor by putting your ear right close and listening for a ticking/pulsing noise the one that isn't ticking is the likely culprit.
You have the opposite problem to me i can't get mine to shut up
I had one fail last year (it stopped ticking) replaced it and all was well.........but now they are all on the blink....they all seem to be ticking but the beeper just goes spastick when you select reverse
Me thinks it could be the module or a loose conection from me pis@ing about in the boot with subs etc
BTW if you do find one ticking i hope it's not one of the front corners as it's a bumper off job.
One other thing and i don't mean to be sarcy here either but are they clean as especially this time of year they get shi@ed up and then dont work.
Good luck.
Have you tried your scanner on them?

i did indeed scanner it a few weeks ago and chose to shrink the beeping distances as i felt they were too optimistic!
it has worked normally since, until today. i will scan again over the weekend and look for faults.
as i was reversing squarely to the car behind i would have thought at least one of the four sensors would be working properly to pick up the car behind and warn me though...

If one sensor fails they all fail as the are all connected...... another great design

Fenj66,
So frustrating mate, when i select reverse they beep like hell and the green light flashes, i wonder if this mean that one or more could be faulty?
Please let us know when you find out what it was!

Re: lost sound on reverse sensors!
hmm. i know that the green light flashes on the switch corresponding with the warning beeps. but if the one sensor fails they all fail scenario is true, then how come ive had the beeping and flashing together until now.

Re: lost sound on reverse sensors!
have you tried cleaning them ? I have found that when they are very dirty or are covered in snow or ice they play up

Some PDCs suffer from a Seasonal Affective Disorder - play up all winter and then are fine in the summer. pvr recommended drying them out with a hairdryer which does look a tad odd out on the driveway but it does work
Other than that, its a faulty sensor, and the constant beeping (or no beeping at all) is a right pain - mine was in the dealers for a warranty replacement of one of the rear PDC sensors but the "repair" only lasted for 24 hours, so its back again Monday........
Ebay £30 kits fitted DIY to much lesser cars, work forever with no problems, you'd think BMW would manage something similar......I'm just glad I don't have to pay for all these glitches - thank heavens for the AUC Warranty.

Check it with your code reader matey and it will tell you exactly which sensor is faulty unless they are all ok.In which case it could be the module or as in my case .....god knows what!!!!

My fronts were constantly screaming after jet washing.
-4°C here so I'm guessing ice. The hairdryer fixed it in five minutes.

Re: lost sound on reverse sensors!
ok, done the scan and found the error "front right unit". i dont know if that means the front right corner or inner sensor.
but alas, too cold to be fiddling with it at the moment, but when its a little better, are they easy to get to to hopefully dry out?
cheers..

No... Bumper needs to be pulled forward to get to them. x555 took his off, I pulled mine forward and got my hands behind them...
Defo wait for the better weather or in the cover

Glad you have found the culprit just a thought before you go taking off the bumper etc ...when it's possible try the hairdyer method of pvr as it could just be moisture with the cold spell.
If it is caput you will need the 90 degree type sensor as the two front corners are different to all the others(they are straight ones).
When i did my front left one i tried drying it out first (see pic) but it was fubar so i replaced it and they worked fine. But now thay are all over the shop and all i get is a constant beep even when going forward after reversing which is why i think it's the module
good luck
here's how to dry the sukers out ......
and here's what a corner one looks like...
