2.0d rough idle with ac on

Hi

Looking at a manual 2006 X3 2.0d.
When the ac is turned on the idle becomes rough as the rpm needle dips up and down slight. You can feel it shaking slightly too. When the ac is turned off the revs smooth out again.
The ac belt has just been changed and it blows cold ok.

Any ideas appreciated

Sounds like the car isn't increasing the idle speed automatically.
