Tyre Advice
Tyre Advice
I currently have the same tyres on all 4 corners and now need the rears changing. I have the 315 20 inch rears. I cannot find another set of the same tyres to match the new fronts just replaced. Will I be ok changing to another make and tread pattern on the back and will it upset the car?

Re: Tyre Advice
It's likely to be one of those 'suck it and see' scenarios. It might have no adverse effects at all, but then again it might.
The rolling diameter is the bit to watch. Some X5s seem to get unhappy if the difference in wear is significant whereas others don't seem bothered. There have been a few recent threads on this after diffs began breaking along with transfer boxes.
I only use the BMW approved rubber now. It may cost a bit more but it's cheaper than a smashed transmission!
I also believe these cars should be a lot less fragile and tolerant of different tyres than they are!! >:(

Re: Tyre Advice
Correct 20's size are:
Rear 315/35/20
Front 275/40/20
Try to stick to them - Toyo are good too (if you can find them). I've had them on mine for a number of years without issue.

Re: Tyre Advice
I might have to bite the bullet and change all 4 for piece of mind. Then sell the fronts as they are like new. Can you send me links for the Toyos please and I assume the tread pattern front and back are the same?
Anyone fancy front Yokohama Advan ST's?

Re: Tyre Advice
I have now contacted over 6 suppliers including the ones advertising stock online and none of them have stock. Yokohama UK do not even know when they will receive a delivery. So plan B is 4 new tyres.
Right chaps, all recommendations greatfully receieved please. Not run flats.
Thanks

Re: Tyre Advice
Michelin Latitude Sport 3 seem to be going down well. New version apparently and not sure on sizes or prices.

Re: Tyre Advice
Its been many times on this forum. E53 its not design to be on run flats... Latest Michelin not rft is the way to go. Bridgestons are good too but quite stiff. Pirelli great but will last max 7k on x5. I had coopers 4xs, very good traction, wet performance etc.
Re: Tyre Advice
I am gutted about the Yokos because I put them on at 69k and I am now on 103k with a little tread to go. They have been amazing lasting this long. Only just changed the fronts 2k ago.
Like the look of the Vredestein SUV Sessantas. Cool looking tread pattern too.

Re: Tyre Advice
Have used Sessantas on mine for several years now - good wear, good looks and good road holding. I change them over the winters around November -Vredestein Wintracs.

Re: Tyre Advice
There is no problem with running an E53 on runflats. The ride may be much firmer, but other than that it's fine for both safety and mechanically. And that's straight from BMW themselves because I had them on mine and would not have done if there had been any doubt. You must have a TPMS system on the vehicle though. I did.
Non RFT tyres will last a lot longer though. Nearly double in many cases. I'm looking to replace the Dunlop SP Sportmaxx on my X6 but will stick with RFT for that one as it's under BMW Warranty and the X6 seems to be better with RFT than the E70 for some reason.
