So I read lots about gearbox lurch when approaching stop or slightly after stopping and can't seem to find out if this is an indication of an impending problem, an actual fault or just an auto transmission quirk. Does anyone have the definitive answer? It happens randomly on my car but I'm not sure if I should be worried or not?? I have read lots re. the subject and I am still confused :s
Cheers

Mine has done it for four years and covered 110,000 miles in that time.

Great I'll stop waiting for the Big Bang, it's not nice driving a car that should be driven for fun worrying about what may happen, never felt like this with any other car lol

Hi Zakbelle,
Feel I must give you my personal experience on this, having it fresh in my mind !
I started getting the lurch about 3 months after buying my car (2003 4.4i E53, 80k miles) Up until then it wasn't doing it at all.
It got worse quite quickly, started getting the trans failsafe error coming up once in a while, then on almost every journey. I got it looked at with the (hopefully) idea to change the gearbox oil and filter - hoping this may sort things out.
By the time it was properly looked at I was given the news that the gearbox and torque converter were shot and needed re-building. Second opinion confirmed it.
I am not saying that jerking = big bang, but having had the experience I am now wary of the gearbox doing anything unusual, or starting to behave oddly, and would jump on it immediately.
The only upside now is I have a warranty on the gearbox for 12k miles (can extend this another 12k in a year) - so gearbox worries are a thing of the past. I'm just £2k lighter for the peace of mind !
