Will these wheels fit ?

Post by RoShamBo » Tue Aug 19, 2014 11:54 am

Hi,

Really like these wheels :

http://www.alloywheelsdirect.net/bmw_al ... wheel_1324

Front : 20x10" ET40
Rear : 20x11" ET37

Wont be paying those prices of course ! But will they fit my 2003 4.4i E53 ?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Ro.

Not without spigot rings and you will also need wheel arch extensions (if not already fitted), because the tread will exceed the wheel arch limit.

Cheers X5Sport.

Wheel arch extensions - Is this because they are an inch wider than the ones I currently have on the car ?

Front 19x9" ET48
Rear 19x10" ET45

And they will stick out more ? So is that a cosmetic thing ? Guessing the spigots are a physical thing ?

Cheers

Yes it's the width of the wheel & tyre combination.  20" wheels will put the tread outside the limit of the wheel arch so you fall foul of the Construction and Use regs.  The extensions are about an inch wide and fit your existing arches.  Several Members on here have diy'd it.  The plastic extension trims add about an inch to the arches.

Spigot rings are to correctly re-centre the wheels because the E70 centre bore diameter is larger than the E53 by a couple of mm.  The rings are about £4 a set.  Have a search on here to see what the right ones actually are.

I actually think they might just go without the need for the arch extensions (from a legality perspective). Aesthetically they will look better with the extensions but I think you'll find that those offsets and widths would still probably just be within the arch. You'll definitely need spigots though.

My original 168's sat well within the arches even discounting the arch extensions extra width and I then ran 25mm spacers on the rear with them still being within the standard arch.

More the fronts that might be borderline. Alpina Dynamic rims are 10j fronts with et50 though and they fit within the front arch without extensions BUT they do have a higher offset by 10mm.
