Maybe one for Sanj........?

What exactly does sport mode do? Does it affect suspension etc as well or just engine characteristics?

Changes the shift points on the gearbox so you get nearer the red line before the next gear is engaged.  As an example in 'Sport' mine only went into 6th at >100mph rather than around 50mph.

There might be a change in throttle response too.  I don't think it changes the suspension as I believe you need adaptive suspension fitted.

Shift down points altered also, it seems to shift down and you have more engine breaking, however it's always ready to go again as it's down a gear, if you follow me.

To be honest I forget this mode is there, similar to the semi manual gear shift selector option, never used it properly only used it to prove it works. Seems almost pointless on a car with such a big engine and loads of horses, I'm quite happy driving in normal D.

The only time I used it was when the car was cold an I needed to get across the A1 in the morning.  Using 'Sport' reduced the delay in pulling away as the car had selected 1st rather than 2nd.  Same trick works with the newer 8-sp box in my X6.  Other than that I usually leave it in 'D' as I can shift with the paddles if needed.
