Garage Time

Post by VegyBS » Tue Aug 05, 2014 3:01 pm

So, my father called today to confirm he's got available time to take the X5 in. I'm not much of a DIYer when it comes to cars....

Here's my list of issues, in priority order:
Air Suspension Inactive
Cats to be knocked out, boxes left in
Squeeling front brakes
'Snatchy' Transmission when slowing down (near stopped)
Warm start when last run on gas results in a long turn over before firing
Starting on gas or petrol often results in a stall without throttle attention
PDC failure 100%
Check rear fog lights
Auxiliary Fan not turning

The top 2 are the only things I'd like done, to be honest. The many joys of a 12 year old E53 :)

Snatchy transmission I would perhaps get looked at sooner rather than later.

Mine started doing this (4.4i 03 90k miles) - approaching junctions as it changed down it jerked / snatched gears - and it quickly got worse. I was going to get the oil & filter changed but it got worse very quickly and long story short needed a full gearbox rebuild.

Not scare mongering, every car is different, but worth making it a priority I think.

Ro.

Let's hope the missing cat contents aren't noticed as that is now an automatic MOT failure and makes the car illegal to use as it no longer complies with its type certification....  as it's illegal, you'll not be selling it then?  And of course you'll tell the insurers about the mod?

A missing cat is not a fail, nor illegal on a car running LPG. The cats have been dead and useless since I purchased the vehicle and during the last MOT. The contents are being removed as they're continually rattling - and like the squeeling brakes I've finally given up living with it!

RoShamBo - I'll be looking to have a software update, should that not cure the symptoms I'll pursure an oil change but hopefully the software will resolve the issue. Certainly don't want to fork out for a replacement box...

The air suspension was down to the 30 amp being blown, so at least #1 is a cheap fix!

My suspension did exactly the same thing, changed the fuse and has been fine ever since ( 1 year on) weird!
