SE or MSport?

Post by nlr74 » Mon Jul 28, 2014 11:30 pm

the E53 is going... its been a short affair, but steering, doors etc. far too heavy for Mrs M. and the kids... so dealer is looking for a 2011-12 40d for me ...

I've always had MSport cars, but tempted to go for an SE this time due to the ride...

What do you think? or is it seats / suspension and styling that are the only differences.

I went for an SE but one with lots and lots of options taking it above the spec of most of the sports I looked at.
The main reason I chose an se is because I wanted the car to be a big comfy cruiser not a sporty car.
If you want a sports car don't buy a 2.5 tonne truck lol.
I didn't want sports suspension or seats, I went for std suspension and comfort seats.
I also liked the side steps, mines got 20" wheels and wide arches and I've had all the plastic parts painted making it look much better and more like a sport.
I would buy on spec and condition instead of se or sport.

I have just bought a sport with some nice extra's.  Personally prefer the look of the msport but I also looked at some SE's with the option to add aero kit the msport kit.  I had to compromise on the colour i wanted but buoght the X5 based on condition and spec.

I prefer the M Sport look to the SE version, I think the sporty styled and colour coordinated bumpers & arches look a lot better than the black SE X5's.
You also get sports seats which I are better than the SE standard seats, but not as good as the comfort seats.
I've got 20" alloys on and I don't think the ride is harsh, but then again I haven't driven an SE X5.

I got an unusual setup, SE with Dynamic Pack, sports suspension deleted, go figure, got it as an ex demo, seemingly the FD of the dealership where I got it from liked em this way, pic below

May be a stupid question, but only out of curiosity. When speaking of Sport Suspension delete, exactly what is the difference between sports and SE suspension?
Is it shock absorbers
Stronger anti roll bars
Different airbags etc.
Would it be possible to replace certain items to improve the ride quality, which seems to dampen ( pardon the pun ) some owners enjoyment of the car.

Probably all of the above.

You'll possibly need to have a look at Realoem to see what parts are changed or have different numbers dependant on whether MSport or not etc.
