Kid in a sweet shop!!!

Post by bigsanj » Mon Jul 21, 2014 10:02 pm

So, 9.30 this morning my dad turns up at my house.  Usually he o ly comes when he wants something and as per usual he did.

As a 62yr old indian man - he is tight with his cash untill now. He sits me down and says he wants rid of his XC90 and has £65k to spend on a new 4x4!!!!!

Oh and cash and has instructed me to get him a deal by the end of the month before he changes his mind!!!

The choices are -

New X5
Mercedes GL
Porsche Cayenne
Audi Q7

Oh its only him who drives it and sits in it. Oh and he constantly moans how exspensive fuel is.

Im stuck. What are your thoughts?

He will be able to moan about the depreciation, it will take his mind of the price of fuel :))

You'll be lucky to get hold of an F15 this year.

Im finding the F15 a bit of a marmite car. From some angles i like it and others i dont. Mind you not my choice.

Spoke with local BMW. Said i can have a 24hr unassisted testdrive if i was leaving a deposit on a new car!!!!! Really!!. Maybe turning up to the showroom in shorts didnt give the right idea.

However Mercedes said no problems and as for Porsche - they insistes i had a 24hr test drive.

Defo F15 IMO. If he keeps the options to a minimum, he could get an M50d for £65k (although the fuel thing might be a stumbling block).

Also IMO:

Defo not a Q7. Traded my Q7 in for the F15 in November last year. The interior is very dated now, although there is an all-new version due out early next year if the rumours are true (was supposed to be this year but apparently the Audi boss ordered an "Emergency redesign"). Also, Mercedes GL I find ugly. Each to there own though!

Thanks Dr C.  Ive managed to organise back to back test drives. He drove the Q7 the other day and said it was like driving my old a6 so thats off the list.

If he has any interest in driving then it has to be the cayenne

BMW have lost their way and the only decent car they currently make is the 1/235i
Currently :
2012 Audi RS4 (B8)
2012 Porsche Boxster S (981)
2008 Lotus Exige S (a bit modified!)
2015 Nissan Leaf twin turbo with Nitros

Previously :
2008 BMW X5 3.0sd MSport
2005 BMW 535d MSport

Hi all, sorry for not updating sooner but we clinched a deal with our local dealer on a 50d M sport. Luckily we dont have to wait long as they are altering a car on the list and should get it for Dec.

One thing is that they want to charge me for the BMW Paint and Protect at £495. Is it worth it?

In a word....No.

It's only something like Autoglym or similar, and there are other choices (the detailers on here will point you in the right direct, won't they Raj. :pokey: ).....that you can apply yourself for a lot less money.  It will only last a year or two before the general grime in the air wears it all off.
If it was free (and for what the car is costing they ought to throw it in) then fine.

I had it for free on my X6 and TBH I wouldn't bother.  In my case the car had to be fully polished to sort the paint defects out so it all got removed anyway!  They refused to re-apply it for free so I didn't bother.

Another version requires re-applying every few weeks - which to me is like cleaning and waxing again.  No point in that either.  Can't remember what it's called now, but the E46 came with it in 2005.  That needed redoing from scratch (no pun intended) after 2 years @£400 a go!!

The deal is done. Only took the dealer 9hrs to come back to me.  Went for the following  -

50d M Sport
20" Alloys
Space Grey
Ivory White/Black Dakota Leather
American Oak Interior Trim
Comfort Seats
Cold Weather Pack
Harmon Kardon
Folding Mifrors
Pan Roof
Sun Protection Glass
Soft Close Doors
Adaptive Headlights
Multi functional Instrument Panel
Reverse assist camera
Surround View

As for the question on everyones lips - discount! Managed to get £3k knocked off and a December Delivery.

So looking forward to getting it. Just a shame its the old mans and not mine.

After the advice from everyond, i didnt got for the BMW seal and prtect but have it booked into my local detailer for a new car detail and c quartz treatment for £500.

Roll on Dec

Sounds a great spec. Couldn't agree more on the new car detail. Best get it done by someone who does it for a living rather than the guy who washes the cars that are in for a service.

I got mine done by a detailer and was able to arrange for them to go to the Dealers to do it before I took delivery.

It'll be allright in the end. If it isn't allright it isn't the end
