Park distance control

When started up this morning an error message "park distance control inoperative, contact BMW service..." came up - never seen before in 6 years of ownership!  Cleaned all the sensors but still comes up.  Car is a 2007 model E70 3.0d with 101000 on the clock!  Does anyone have any ideas please?

I'm no expert but most likely a sensor has packed in

As E53Steve has said probably a sensor gone down and that will disable the system.
Our 57 plate X5 did the same a couple of months ago and I had to replace two rear sensors.
You need to plug in a code reader to see what sensors are at fault, where are you located?

Thanks Martin,

I'm in Stockton on Tees.  Several weeks ago it was at a friendly auto electrician who quickly and for a reasonable price, fixed a defunct a/c and radiator fan system and reprogrammed the computer after putting in a new relay under the front wing - so I'll take it to him as he seems to know what he's doing.

[/quote]I am in Southampton so a bit too far to pop round and pop the code reader on, shame as you can get the sensors for about £20 off ebay, BMW wanted about £90 each and the ones I got from ebay look identical and so far have been working fine.
