4 X 4 system faulty

Post by mark hamster 28 » Wed Jul 16, 2014 7:48 pm

hi all.

question to folks who know stuff lol. A few weeks back my wife was driving our X5 and she said some fault came up about the 4X4 system and then a few days later it happened to me, so I stopped and took a photo with my phone of the message.! I later rang bmw assist who said it needed to be booked in a garage to be checked out, this is after fault message gone away and not been back since.!

well today its been in to stratstone at Derby to have a few things done and one being this problem.!

the message said "4X4 system faulty, driving stability restricted, drive with moderation. Have checked as soon as possible by BMW service.!" also next to speedo a orange triangle with a circle around it came on.

dropped car off at 9.30am this morning and they have gave me a brand new 420d sport for the day.! Well about 4pm they rang to say they had done the other bits and bobs but to stop this message coming up again they have had to re-programme the computer or something like that and sometimes its don't take long but my car was I guess hooked up to there computer and they said it was still showing another 2 hours until it was done ???  Can anyone please shed any more light on this please ?? car is 5 years old and have there warranty and will renew after 12 months so not to worried if it does have a fault as it will be there cost but this seems a bit odd to me ??

got the 420 msport still so not really complaining but just would like to no more.!! thanks for reading this, Mark

They will have connected the car on line to BMWs servers in Germany.  It will be checking your 'firmware/software build' against the current version and updating whatever is needed.

My X6 was done last year and it took more than 24 hours.  Sometimes it depends upon how busy the servers are and how bad the dealer's internet connection is.

If the BMW system finds anything 'wrong' such as a remap then the system kindly overwrites it back to standard for you too...... >:(

Could be the update as it will likely have brought some of the transmission profiles up to the latest standards.
