though my car has full service history , I thought I would renew the breather for piece of mind , glad I did because by the date on the old one it looks as though it's the original one .

Vortex breathers don't need to be renewed. It's the old bog roll type that block up and need to be serviced, once a vortex one is installed they don't block up, as there is no filter in them. Or so I thought
2011 Kia Sorento KX3  2.2D 60 Plate Auto in black ( mine )
BMW E83 X3.  3.0d M Sport, 2008 in black ( now gone )
BMW E93 330i Convertible  Msport  2007.  ( Now sold )
VW Golf 2.0 TDI 140 GT 2010 ( now sold )
Now Sold 55 plate, X5, 3.0 D Sport. Silv

There is no filter medium per-ce in the vortex type.

It relies on the circulation of the air stream and the cyclone effect to separate the oil from the air ala Dyson therefore not blocking up

Having said that though, as there is oil in contact with it then it can gunge up and if the oil is not too great could restrict it.
Maybe needing a clean out occasionally wouldn't be a bad thing.

I was just thinking the photo of all the covers off reminds e soooo much of mine....

For the sake of £13 +vat and a hour of my own time I thought it was worth changing for piece of mind.

I'm with you on that if I'm removing it to clean it then might as well fit a new one, as long as the part is cheap [emoji106]
