MIS FUEL
MIS FUEL
Well, my wife had the honour of refuelling the X5 on Wednesday and oh what a mistake she made.
Her first time to fill it up - I have done it twice - and after a bad day at the office and a worse one to come, she was on auto pilot.
She opened the filler, saw the lovely coloured green bits on the filler cap and put in £114 of unleaded into our beloved 3.0D !!
He is coming home today after his enema and hopefully will be fine......unlike my pocket which seems sadly light!!
The picture hopefully shows him at his near best , on the look out now for winter wheels and tyres; cheaper ones than I planned two days ago!

Re: MIS FUEL
I hope she didn't start it?
You can get a mis-fuelling preventer that stops a petrol nozzle being put in. It needs the wider diesel nozzle to open the flap inside.
Might save a future oops!

Re: MIS FUEL
Thanks for the advice all yep, a mis-fuel preventer may be a good investment.
In fairness to her, the car wasnt started and the error has been negated......however.....why oh why did they put those green parts on the filler cap?? A tank full of premium diesel may help too.
On the issue of names, our cars have always been referred to in the masculine.....this one is called Lemmy (Le Mans), my 5 is Jeff (long story) and wifes MR2 Roadster is Izzy (Izzy Myake the Japanese designer I believe) )

Re: MIS FUEL
The cost ws £190 including recovery; I don't think that is too bad.....what was bad was the loss of the £114 for the unleaded and the £120ish to refuel with diesel :'( :'(

Re: MIS FUEL
...or if the engine was run, as petrol can wreck the fuel pumps, injectors, seals and dump bits in the engine leading to very serious failures. One guy in my dealer a few years back now was having an engine replacement at more than £7k....

Re: MIS FUEL
Did exactly the same with my diesel due to the 'green bits'! Fortunately the car was near empty & I only stuck 1 litre in before realizing my error! Just filled it right up with diesel to dilute it.
Bloody stupid idea putting bright green bits on a diesel fuel flap! I swear that's the only reason I made the mistake!

Re: MIS FUEL
Does it not say 'Diesel' on the fuel cap, or is that only on the later versions? But yes, it wasn't the wisest colour choice.....

Re: MIS FUEL
I triple check each time as some pumps have green hoses, some black hoses. Even better when the hoses are all twisted and you are trying to work out which one is which ....

what did the enema cost?
Found this - anyone used it?

I bought this - seem to work quite well although I would point out that it does restrict the flow somewhat and you get the cut out click on the pump kicking in every so often if you have the pump delivering at full pressure - once youre used to it is fine. I've tried and it is physically impossible to insert the unleaded pump into the neck of the petrol tank with this device fitted.
Its a peace of mind thing.
