Show Me Your Dog Cage...

Post by BullyB » Thu Jun 12, 2014 3:05 pm

Has anybody got a dog cage in the back of an E70?
I have had a look at some but nothing seems to fit in to my plan.
I'm thinking I may have to get a custom one made..

These monsters have slowly been destroying my E46 and I don't want the same on the E70

Just stick in a good boot liner like a hatch bag , they are strong PVC and cover the whole interior of boot floor, sides and seat back. Keeps the carpet below spotless. Then add a good dog guard to keep them in the back.

If you need a guard I'm selling my genuine BMW metal one, very strong and robust. PM or reply in my posting in buy/sell section.

the problem is that I don't want them loose in the boot.
If I could get a cage I could let them have say 1/4 of the boot and still get a bit of space for luggage etc.

This is probably winning at the moment.
It is however a bit like locking them in a dark box...

We've had one of these for our Rough Collie for the past 7yrs, superbly engineered and fairly unique in safety terms.

Wow, they look well made.
Do you think it keeps the dog a bit low and in the dark.

He's ok in it, not too dark or low if you get the maximum size to fit the X5. Great customer service from these guys, give them a shout.
I'm a test Engineer by trade (British Standards) and these just make so much sense.

That's what I was going to do and what I have now in my E46 but I wanted to try and save a bit of boot space and possibly give the dogs just 3/4. They normally just sleep anyway.

I'm actually considering making a cage out of wood

As per BullyB's pic above, you can also buy the partition as an upgrade..  it clips to the dog guard about 2/3 of the way across the boot area.

That way bigger dogs can have 2/3's, and leave you 1/3 for luggage etc..  or the other way round for smaller dogs.

I dont have kids, so i tend to stick shopping/luggage etc on the back seats, and let the hound have the whole boot to herself :)

Do you know who sells the divider for the boot?

We have one of these for our two, fits nicely Image

It's not dark at all as the sides are fairly open,

I think I have decided to just separate the boot and not bother with a cage.
I purchased one of these yesterday:

I have a discount code if anybody is interested  ;)

I was just about to get this:

but then discovered it is only recommended for the 7 seat X5's as the floor is higher in them.
I may still go for it but it will have a bit of a gap at the bottom.

I have not got the car yet but these two won't hang around for me to get it protected  :)

Try out Lintran made to measure boxes.

Great service, they will make it to your Spec and keeps the boot clean and tidy.
