BlueTooth Module Probs

Over the last few weeks I've had intermittent issue with Bluetooth pairing where the 3 lights top right of the screen would flash - even thought the phone was paired and continued to work. Yesterday I deleted the pairing off my phone in order to re-do to see if it cured the problem. However I cant seem to pair my phone with he system now at all :-/

Is there some way to unplug power from the BT module with out removing the battery so I can 'reboot' it? Anything else I should try?

The ulf module is in the boot under the plastic section below the sat nav etc if you wan't to unplug it.
It may be worth checking the cables in the back of the centre console (remove the plastic insert tray etc and look) as these can fray and cause problems.
The bluetooth on these cars can be frustrating to say the least it took me ages last time for mine to pair up and yet nothing was broke

Also try deleting text messages etc as this can help also.

I've had the same issues frustratingly.......they have driven me to distraction!!! I know I'm using the correct pairing sequence, but it has taken hours to get into pairing mode at times, occasionally I've even left it overnight.......then it gets into pairing mode a few tiomes in succession. Its been so unpredictable that I had the car into BMW under warranty and they have agreed to replace the Bluetooth module on Monday thank heavens.....I hope the new module is easier to get into pairing mode than this one!!! The dealer agreed there must be a fault in the unit that it won't go into pairing mode without a huge battle. I don't have a problem actually pairing the phone or deleting old phones etc once its in pairing mode, its getting it into pairing mode........

Oh well, just as well its under BMW AUC Warranty - the other age old nuisance, the constantly beeping parking sensor, is being changed at the same time. And I get the Service Managers M3 for the day

But yes, given that Nokia BT kits and Parrot kits are pretty cheap and utterly reliable, you would think BMW would have BT sorted by now....I suppose that cars the age of E53 s though, do have older BT modules, and new BMWs seem to have fewer problems with BT.

Certainly agree that newer cars have less hassle with Bluetooth. Had a 2007 325 and got a 2010 X5 and on both its a doddle. Hope the dealer sorts it for yuo!

My wife could not get her 2005 E46 to accept her iPhone4 no matter how hard we tried, even with every other device ckeared. I happened to mention it when I was ordering my E71 and the Sales Guy went out and had it sorted in just a few seconds. Incredibly frustrating. Her previous phone was a Motorola RAZR V3 and that frequently failed to reconnect in the car which was very annoying and we never sorted out. Her Nokia 6310i always worked perfectly in the same car.

My E71 has paired with every device I've thrown at it on the first attempt! BMW appear to have taken note of the issues with their earlier ULF devices. I think the later ULF modules were much better. Annoyingly, they have now removed the earlier list of compatible phones that covered previous models - or at least I can't find it now

May be your dealer knows a trick that will help you.

I'm having real trouble with my bluetooth on my 54reg E53. Out of the blue it stopped receiving calls on any of the paired phones. I have tried re-pairing them and disconnecting the module and re-connecting after a few minutes and nothing has changed. The problem is no sound is coming through the speakers and I am unable to search for contacts etc. Whenever I press the address book button it just says PLEASE WAIT. If I try to direct dial out of the cpu screen there is no sound and it has no effect on my phone whatsoever yet the green outgoing call light is active on the head unit.

Has anyone experienced the same and if so how did you solve this issue?

OK - try this link first:

Then for double measure check the Bluetooth module in the boot. It has a 45-pin connector on it. May be worth disconnecting, cleaning pins and then re-seating the bugger! It's on the left, under the CD changer, etc...

I've already had the module out and cleaned the connections. I'll try the fix on the link and hope for the best. I don't fancy taking an expensive punt on a new module if it's not needed

Have you deleted all the phones that are / were paired? Also worth clearing all your SMS as this sometimes messes up the older ULF units if there are too many texts on your phone for it to handle.

I couldn't get it to delete the old phones earlier today but will try again in the morning as it stopped going into pairing mode after a couple of times . The unit doesn't actually pull accross my text msgs from my blackberry but I will clear them all off the handset and try that too. There are very old msgs on the headunit - how can I delete these as I suppose they could be to blame? I have tried doing them one by one but they don't disappear even though I select delete but as I don't have the manual I suppose iI could be doing something wrong.

There is also a green three letter logo on the bottom of the screen (TMS I think) but I am presuming this is traffic msging or something.

Still struggling with this. Please can someone tell me how to delete txt msgs off the actual system as I cannot do this either.

Is there a factory reset procedure or anything else because there appears to me that there is a software issue with the system. If I press the telephone button the outgoing calls light goes on to a mobile number which isn't on any of my phones. Nothing comes through the speakers (dial tone etc.) and I have to turn the ignition off to "end" the call.

I's starting to tear my hair out with this one and really miss havin bluetooth in the car!

Pete, have you disconnected the battery (under tin hat thing in the boot) and waited approx twenty minutes before reconnecting? That should clear the system. After that, if the BT won't delete the old phones / texts it sounds as if the module itself is faulty - mine did similar things to what you're describing, luckily it was exchanged for a brand new one under AUC warranty. TMC is the traffic monitoring thingy for the satnav, nothing to do with BT.
