I bought a reverse camera for my Golf, it came with a red wire moulded into the video cable ( the one with the the yellow RCD ends on it.
On a typical aftermarket set up, the head unit has a wire that sends a sinal to the camera when the canbus tell the headunit that reverse gear is selected. This wire is used to transmit that sinal to tHe camera instead of a sinal being taken from the reverse lights via a relay.
On the X5 you use a signal from the reverse lights to power the camera, so this wire should be obsolete I guess.
I used it on the golf but the canbus wasn't happy, so I picked up a feed via the relay from the reverse lights which in turn switched a permanent feed from the boots cig lighter to power the camera, this then got shut of any interference that the canbus was creating.
Not that difficult once you have run the wires in, that's the hardest bit.
