Im Welsh, and even watching them, it still annoys me they cannot finish a ball. Poor passing, back to the England of old! they looked exciting against Italy.

Re: How do we solve the enigma of the England football team??
I tried watching an England match as I seldom if ever watch football.........bored near instantly but gave it 20 mins before switching to Eurosport and watching Le Mans 24 hr.
I appreciate many adore football but for me it's not an exciting sport and one that has been spoilt further due to yob behaviour on and off pitch.....Sadly many are influenced negatively by the sport and worship idiots within it.
It amazes me how taking children to many football events would be regarded as appropriate or a pleasant experience.

I'm with you on that AW8. I don't even have the Sports channels on my subscription. About the only thing I used to watch was World Superbikes or MotoGP, the odd rugby match and perhaps a cricket test - but only the highlights.
That being said, the 6 Nations can be 'testing' with me being English and tother half Welsh...... )

I'm into footy big time (by the way I'm not a hooligan) I'm not keen on golf tennis etc but I always want an English sports person to win then a British sports person to win.I can't understand why anybody doesn't want there nation to do well in any sport and yes some footballers are big heads and think they walk on water.

Re: How do we solve the enigma of the England football team??
Here is the simple answer. Feel free to add something more complex
Right now England has perhaps two world class players (Gerrard and Rooney), the rest are on the way up or down. England has had a good footballing past and currently probably the best league in the world is played there.
None of the above means that the England international team can or will play well as a team, however England fans expect another world cup (by the way to date only eight countries have ever won it -Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Germany, England, France, Italy and Spain I think from memory)
England will be good again but it needs a new cycle of players/training/coaching/management to get it where it needs to be. Look at Spain - they're on a new cycle and not yet delivering.
Its not an enigma because they are just not yet good enough.
Simples.

Just take note of the Dutch, we are the Tim Henman of world cup football - we never ever quite get to the end )

Re: How do we solve the enigma of the England football team??
And the most obvious......reduce the numbers of overseas players. The premier league seems to train every other national teams' players and not enough of our own. But then the PL is all about money.
